Hi, we are Ian and Gill, and like a lot of 50 somethings have reached a time in our life when we want to make some changes to give us a little bit ‘more’ than the daily grind.
About 2 years ago, after working in the print industry for over 35 years, Ian left his job and started working for himself, only small scale, but something that he enjoyed doing. This is still going well and is something that he can scale down as we nearer the time to go off on our travels.
I, on the other hand, am still working full time and commuting to and from Kent everyday and for any of you out there that know the M25 and the Dartford crossing this is an absolute nightmare! However, there is light at the end of the tunnel (pardon the pun – well kind of), the countdown is on and we are gearing up for our first Dakota dalliance.
Our dazzling new Dakota is due to arrive late March/early April and we are getting both excited and apprehensive – there is so much to learn, so much to do, so much to buy …….. but we can’t wait. As this is all new to us – we’ve never been caravanning or motor-homing before – the closest we’ve come is spending our honeymoon in my parent’s VW camper van in Scotland – but that’s another story for another time.
Anyway, we’ve decided we’re going to start off on short breaks, weekends away, in the local area, and as we become more adept at handling her we will venture further afield. Our plan is to gradually increase the time we spend in Livvi over the next year and in the summer spend about a month in France, so that in the Spring of 2017 we can kiss goodbye to Blighty for at least a year. Well that’s the plan – but you never know how things will change, life has a habit of messing with you when you least expect it.
